The Power To Change - Desiring to Change

The Power To Change - Desiring to Change

PEOPLE IN RECOVERY, REGARDLESS of what they’re trying to recover from, talk about the point at which they knew they had to make a change in their lives.

It is not unusual to desire a change. However, we may be unsure where to begin. And stepping back to take a look at why things aren’t working can be a daunting task as it may mean confronting a personal or professional weakness. In addition, it can also involve being honest with yourself about how your actions or thoughts played a role in your present circumstance.

Have you ever gotten to the point where you were sick and tired of being sick and tired. What did you do? Many people reach this point and say, “I don’t care what it is going to take; I’m not going back to that behavior.” Up to that point, we have all spent a lot of time wishing, hoping and even praying that you don’t feel as bad as you do. When you’re sick and tired of being sick and tired, you’re on the verge of doing something huge. It is this experience that will allow you to have the power, energy, passion and focus to do what has to be done.

The desire to change requires a conviction that the change you seek is necessary, that you truly want it. Sometimes this can happen when you have “eureka” moments, but most of the time it is a gradual process, with small advances as well as setbacks. Don’t kid yourself, Change is a journey not a destination.

The desire to change, is usually associated with a perceived gain by making the change. That perception needs to feed into your building yourself up inside. With that small act, building yourself up, you start a new form of self-talk. POSITIVE self-talk. What’s so wonderful about talking to yourself in a positive manner like this is that it can be just one or two words. It can be a sentence, a paragraph, or a picture. Starting a new conversation is the best way to start turning off the old voices. It’s how I began my journey.

Remember, negative thoughts attract negative realities. What you say when you talk with yourself is very important—it truly must be POSITIVE self-talk, or you may end up with the opposite of your intentions. How powerful your mind is! If you could see yourself as being happier, more successful, wealthier and healthier, you would be happier, more successful, wealthier and healthier. You have the power.
