The Power To Change - Understanding Yourself

The Power To Change - Understanding Yourself

Ever felt like you always have a black cloud over your head? Feel like nothing will ever go right for you? If you feel this way, you are right, nothing will ever go right or change. A problem does exist, but, you have The Power To Change. You need to take the next step. You need to discover the behavior or situation that creates your problems.

Understanding yourself is about learning to better understand why you feel what you feel and why you behave in a particular way. Having this understanding gives you the opportunity and freedom to change things about yourself, enabling you to create a life that you will love to live.
Think about what it is you want to change in your life. Do you have a problem behavior like overeating, smoking or drinking? Was there somebody you were raised with who had the same behavior? A parent, a sibling, or somebody close? We need to understand where problem behavior comes from.

Before attempting to make a change in your life, it’s important to understand your current situation or behavior.

Understanding yourself involves answering some difficult questions. Why are you unable to stop at one drink, one cookie, or one hand of poker? Why do relationships derail, even though you’ve told yourself that this person is “the one”? Why do some of you always manage to “lose” your job after you reach a certain level in the company? Why do you start fights when things get too close?

Understanding ourselves isn’t easy. It requires a great deal of thought, sometimes about people, situations or circumstances in our lives that we would just as soon forget. Understanding yourself means you need to become more self-aware.

Take a look at the things in your life you want to change. Consider the behaviors you’d like to modify or eliminate. Do you overeat? Do you smoke or drink? Do you gamble? Do you sabotage your relationships or your career advancement? Are you short-tempered with your spouse or children? Think about the times you have done this. Can you remember the first time the behavior started? You can get a huge clue toward understanding what’s going on if you’ll just examine the behavior.
There’s a lot of power in understanding where you are and why you are where you are.

Now is the time for you to examine the origin of the things you’d like to change in your life.
